Avoid The Academics Writing Studies

Where writing is a part of our everyday life, academic writing is different than it. Generally, when writing in a casual tone, we tend to write in the way we speak. This tone and type of writing is not appreciated in essays, research papers and other academic assignments.

This is why, instead of doing the work themselves, many students try to take help from write my essay for me writing help providers and save themselves from making such mistakes.

Some of the common language errors and the type of phrases and words that you should not use in your essays and research papers are discussed below.

1. Cliches

Cliches are the types of words and phrases that are otherwise used in everyday communication but are not suitable for academic language. Such phrases are often overly exaggerated and does not sound scholarly or academic.

For example, sleeping like dead, ignorance is bliss, love is blind, the grass is always greener on the other side, etc. Now these phrases may make a great speech or debate but in writing, these will not work well.

2. Contractions

Shortening of words like ‘isn't’ for ‘is not’ and ‘don't’ for ‘do not’ is not considered as a good academic writing practice. This type of language is informal and does not count as a good scholarly way or writing something. Instead use full forms.

3. Weak and Incorrect Thesis Statement

Weak thesis statements present general type of information that is known and does not allow for any debatable points. To make a strong and impressive thesis statement, focus on your main point of research and make it debatable.

4. Unclear Quantities

Instead of using overly exaggerated and vague qualities like ‘a lot, a large amount, myriad, a number of’, use specific numbers and quantities. In case presenting specific numbers is not possible, you can use such terms.

5. Colloquial Language

Language that is used in a research and scholarly paper is different than the language that we speak. This type of language is informal and used in everyday language, which is informal and very common. Avoid such phrases and find more scholarly and formal alternatives.

6. Run-On expressions:

Run-on expressions like ‘and so on’, ‘and the likely’ and ‘so forth’ make weak write ups and essays. These expressions make the language look informal and plain, which is not recommended in academic writing. End the sentences properly and avoid such a practice.

7. Rhetorical Questions:

Rhetorical questions are used when the writer is sure that the reader will know its meaning. In case of research papers, you do not know who will read your paper and adding a rhetorical question can confuse them. It is better to avoid them in your essays and papers. And search fro sample free essays before start writing.
